Zula J. Safford
Zula J. Safford, 77, of Casper, passed away Jan. 7, 2010 at the Life Care Center.
She was born August 3, 1932 in Vaiden, Mississippi, the daughter of the late William Henry "Jack" and Odie Scoggins Greenlee. Zula was raised in Kilmichael, Mississippi and graduated from Kilmichael High School in 1950. Zula was a graduate of Delta State University in 1954 and then taught elementary school for over 33 years. She was united in marriage to Deryl Safford Aug. 3, 1957 and he preceded her in death Jan. 27, 1998. Mrs. Safford was a member the First Presbyterian Church serving as a church elder , sang in the church choir and served as wedding coordinator for many years. Mrs. Safford was a volunteer at the Fort Caspar Museum and sponsored eight scholarships at Casper College. She was an active member of PEO and Delta Kappa Gamma. Zula was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sisters, Qujette Greenlee Eudaley of Casper and Florine Greenlee Bennett of Malden, Missouri, three nieces , Annetta Eudaley Bean, Vanessa Eudaley Anderson, Alisa Wann Bennett and two nephews, Dale Bennett and Bobby Bennett, a great niece, Aleah Qujette Toyokura, a great nephew, Joshua Bean and host of beloved friends including her beloved pet, LucyLu.
Memorial services will be Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, 2 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Pastors Paul R. Kuhn and Quinn Williams officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Casper College Foundation for the Zula Safford Scholarship Fund. Newcomer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
