William Haskins Ward died June 11, 2012 at Central Wyoming Hospice after a valiant battle with cancer.
William Haskins Ward was born July 2, 1927 near Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of William Harrison Ward and Lula Vaughn Ward. His father worked for Gulf Oil, so his early years were spent in various oilfield towns.
He graduated from Plainville High School in Plainville, KS in 1945. He was drafted into the army in the last draft of WWII and served in Anchorage, Alaska. He was discharged and attended Ft. Hays University for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma where he received his Petroleum Engineering degree in 1951.
On October 18, 1952 he married his wife, Patricia Searle, and they enjoyed 59 wonderful years together.
His career with Sohio Petroleum Company took them from Lafayette, LA to Oklahoma City, OK to Tyler, TX to Pauls Valley, OK to Russell, KS and finally to Casper, WY where he retired as District Manager in 1980. His retirement years were spent traveling and fishing all over the world.
He was a dedicated volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and spent many years as a tutor in the Math Lab at Casper College. He also worked as a tutor for the GED program at Casper College until his illness.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia; and by two children, Kathryn Barbara Ward of Carbondale, IL and William Holden Ward and his wife Elizabeth of Mooresville, NC; and by two grandchildren, William Harvey Ward and his wife Gwen, and Rebecca Claire Ward.
A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 E. 2nd, Casper, WY, 82601.
Inurnment will be in Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery.
