William S. "Woody" Hill, 77, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2014 at Mountain View Hospital in Casper, Wyoming. Woody was born May 26, 1937 in San Francisco, California to Verona Ulke and William O. "Kelly" Hill. The first years of his life were spent on his father's ranches near Elko, Nevada and Auburn, California, with the exception of a 4 year break during World War II which they spent in San Francisco. Following his father's death in 1949, Woody's mother moved the family to Carbondale, Colorado.
He graduated from Carbondale Union High School in May of 1955. He was a star athlete in football and basketball. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June of 1955. He met and married the love of his life, Marie Sage in Denver, Colorado in December of 1957. They were married for nearly 57 years and to this union were born 4 children, two boys and two girls.
After leaving the service he ranched, was a hard-rock miner, and an electronics instructor at the reformatory at Buena Vista, Colorado. He returned to college in 1967, enrolling in Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He was a member of the first graduating class of Colorado Mountain College in May of 1969. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Arts from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado in 1972.
Woody began his teaching career in 1972 in Rawlins, Wyoming as an Industrial Arts teacher. He loved teaching, but also loved his time spent coaching football, and both boys and girls basketball.
He enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting, archery, motorcycling, and skiing. One of his most favorite past times was the sport of rodeo where he was a team roper.
He retired in 1992 and moved to Casper, Wyoming. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, became an avid golfer, and followed the activities of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of Casper; daughter, Kathleen Petersen (Warren) of Loveland, Colorado; son, Kelly of Casper, Wyoming; son, Steve (Mary) of Rawlins, Wyoming; and daughter Karen Wolfley (Todd) of Sterling, Colorado.
