Graveside services for longtime Mills resident William O. "Bill" Pattan are set for 1:00 p.m. December 28,2005 at Memorial Gardens cemetery. A wake in celebration of his life will follow the service. Friends and family are encouraged to bring their musical
instruments for a musical tribute to Bill.
William O. "Bill" Pattan was born on October 17, 1916 in Mills, Nebraska. He was the son of Frank and Stella (Shaw) Pattan. He passed away December 21, 2005 at Wyoming Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
As a child, he lived in Mills, Nebraska and later the family moved to Mission, South Dakota. Bill moved to Cascade, Idaho as a teenager. It was there that he met Stella Allen. They were married on March 30, 1940 in Council, Idaho and she remained the love of his life for 65 years. He spent many years as a section foreman for the railroad during and after World War II before moving to Mills in 1960. He worked as a machinist making oilfield tools and parts until the early 1980's, when he retired, and began his own business, Western Star Upholstery.
Bill was known as a kind-hearted and generous man, who had many friends. He had a ready smile, and could always be counted on to help someone, even if he didn't know them. He especially loved music, and will be remembered for his fiddle playing and singing. He was a long standing member of the Old Time Fiddler's Association, and had won many state and local championships and awards. He also had a love of the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters ,and one foster son. He is survived by his wife, Stella. He is also survived by his son A. James Pattan,of Casper, one foster son, Brent Scofield, of Mills, two grandsons, John Pattan of Mills and Jim Pattan of Casper, two granddaughters, Zina Hornick of Douglas and Lisa Sothan of Cheyenne, as well as six great grandchildren and one great great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
