William “Bill” Noble Jones, most recently of Casper and Buffalo, Wyoming, left this earth for heaven on August 4, 2024. His family was together and by his side his last couple of weeks and at his passing.
Bill was born in Kentucky and spent his young years there and in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He later moved to Ogden, Utah with his family. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force.
In 1961, he married Sandra Vidness of Midwest, Wyoming. Although they parted ways years later, they continued to be friends and enjoy their four children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill and his family lived in South Dakota, Puerto Rico, Washington and Texas during his military service. He also completed several temporary duty assignments overseas. After 20 years of dedicated service in Fire Control for Avionics and Crypto, Bill retired from the Air Force in 1979 and remained in Abilene, Texas. After retirement, he attended Auto Body Repair school and had an independent home repair business, also working with realtors, doing home repair on some of their listings.
Bill worked with the FAA in Casper, Wyoming when his family relocated to the area.
After a short time, Bill returned to Abilene. He and Barbara Kitchens of Albany, Texas were married in 1990.
In 2018, Bill moved back to Casper, where he enjoyed living independently. When the time came that he needed a little help in day to day living, his decades’ dream of living in Buffalo at the Veterans Home of Wyoming, formerly the Wyoming Soldiers and Sailors Home, became reality. He resided there in both the assisted living and beautiful new skilled nursing facility until his passing.
Bill enjoyed classic cars, good music from reel-to-reels to Alexa, watching television, telling jokes and visiting with friends and family. He enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren, often taking them to the local zoo and children’s museums and even joining them on the swings at the park. He had a special love for the Grand Teton Mountains and spent a season in the late 1980s doing maintenance work there.
Bill was preceded in death by both wives and a sister. He is survived by two brothers and a sister, his four children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at the Veterans Home of Wyoming, especially the caregivers at the Aspen Cottage and also to the VA Home Care team in Casper that helped care for our Dad before and between the times he resided in Buffalo. Dad affectionately and gratefully referred to his caregivers as “Sugar Bears”.
Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota at a later date.
