William R. (Bill) Douglass Sr., age 92, passed away May 19, 2016 at Central Wyoming Hospice, surrounded by all his family.
Bill was born on Feb 5, 1924 in Beloit, KS, to James and Marie (Pagett) Douglass. Bill joined the army in 1940 and was discharged in 1945. He spent 2 years in Europe and was a truck driver hauling troops and supplies to the front line. Bill was proud to be a member of the 35th Infantry and General Patton's army.
Bill married Phyllis Peters on June 17, 1946 in Omaha, NE. To that union was born Bill Jr. and Debbie. They relocated to Rawlins, WY in 1951 where Bill was employed by Union Pacific Railroad and Cream O' Weber Dairy. Bill was active in Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Bill, Phyllis and family moved to Casper, WY in 1971 to purchase the Red Barn Drive-in, building two more Red Barns in the following years. After selling the restaurants, they moved to Las Vegas, NV and built a Super 8 Motel in 1985. Bill loved to play cards, "Pan" being his favorite. Bill and Phyllis moved back to Casper in 2008 to be closer to family.
Bill is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Bill Jr. of Casper and daughter Debbie, (Bruce) Hoffman of McCook, NE, 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim, and sisters Mary and Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony Catholic School or Central Wyoming Hospice.
Funeral Mass for Bill will be held at Our Lady of Fatima church on Monday June 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following Mass. Military honor services at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery to follow at 2:00 p.m.
