William Dennis

February 25, 1927 — March 18, 2016

William Edgar Dennis "Bill" passed away peacefully at Life Care Center in Casper on Friday, March 18, 2016 following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old.
Bill, the son of William E. "Ed" Dennis and Mamie (Dennis) Freeman, was born on February 25, 1927 in Nocona Texas. He grew up and attended schools in Oklahoma City until he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bill was a recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. His troop was among the first to land in occupied Japan following the bomb at Hiroshima. As a Technical Sergeant, Bill worked with members of the 5201 Engineer Construction Brigade to help rebuild Japan.

After his enlistment, he married the love of his life Billie June Jeffers on December 24, 1946 in Odessa Texas. In December 1949, Bill and Billie moved to Casper, Wyoming where they lived, loved and raised their family for 67 years. Bill spent most of his years in the oilfields of Wyoming as a mechanic and enjoyed working around Casper's youth as a caretaker at the Wyoming Children's Center in Casper until his retirement in 1992.

Bill was well known for his mechanical abilities, whit, and smile; but he will be remembered by his friends and family as a man of integrity and generosity. He never hesitated, in his soft spoken way, to offer strength and support and to anyone whether it be a family member, friend or stranger. Bill enjoyed his actives around the Shrine T-Patrol and particularly enjoyed driving "grandpa's little car" in parades around the state. He spent his retirement years enjoying his grandchildren, family events, ancestry research and life's celebrations.

Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Billie Dennis; his sister Isla Faye Floyd; sons Michael, Kevin and Kerry; daughters Nancy Jensen and her husband Luther and Sherlyn Kaiser and her husband Matt; dear friend of the family Kim Scharoosh; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several other dearly loved family members. He was preceded in death by his father Ed Dennis, mother Mamie Freeman and sister Wanda Ruth Dennis.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home-Casper Chapel from 5:00p.m.-6:00p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 24, at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery beginning at 2p.m. with Military Honors to follow.
