Walter "Wally" Lee Schneider, 77, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Casper, WY. A Casper native, he was the first of seven children born to Everett and Doris Schneider on October 19, 1936. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Jolley, Lon Schneider, Cliff Schneider, Jane Mullins, and Ken Schneider. He is preceded in death by his brother, Richard L. Schneider.
Walter retired from the US Postal Service after more than 35 years, receiving numerous commendations. A generous soul, Walter's passions were varied and deep, including a lifelong love of fishing, flying and spending time in nature on his property on Casper Mountain. Later in life, the loss of his legs kept him from the sky and streams he loved, leading him to begin reading and collecting a large library of books. As a pilot he earned commercial multi-engine and instrument ratings. He served as a member of the civil air patrol, maintained lifetime Elks and NRA Golden Eagle memberships and supported many more organizations including the National Wildlife Federation, Audubon Society, and Arbor Day Foundation.
Funeral services will be privately held this summer on Casper Mountain.
