Walter Dean Anderson Sr., passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on his 89th birthday. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Albert H. Anderson and Floria L. Vinson.
Walter was raised near Fort Laramie. He left school at an early age to work the farm with his father. He had a great love of farming and animals especially horses. He raised horses well into his 80s. He married Lela, on August 17th 1941, who he had known for some time. They were married in the family farm house just outside Fort Laramie.
In January of 1943 Walter was called on to serve his country in the Navy. He was proud of his service and donated his navy memorabilia to the Natrona County Veterans Museum where they are currently on display.
Walter spent his life farming and truck driving. He retired from Black Hills Trucking but found that retirement was not for him. He worked for several years at Fox Hill Apartments as the head grounds keeper so he could continue driving a tractor. He then worked at the Nicolaysen Art Museum until he turned 80.
Walter is survived by his five children; Walter Anderson Jr. (Diann) of Casper, Marian Cox (Robert) of Casper, Bill Anderson (Georgie) of Ucross , Carol Osborne of Casper, Bob Anderson (Herumi) of Indiana and very close family friend Willard Menter (Carol )of Douglas. He is also survived by his brother Dave Anderson of Cheyenne and sister Gladys Bowdish of Torrington and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, his parents and two brothers , Tom Anderson and Albert Anderson, also a great great granddaughter.
His greatest gift to his family was to teach them to be loving, honest, responsible and hard working people by living that example himself.
FUNERAL SERVICE: A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Oregon Trail Veteran Cemetery on Friday, February 24, 2012. A visitation will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 E. 2nd St., Casper, WY from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012.
