Vi Elaine Kinsfather, 91, longtime resident of Casper, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her bedside on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Porter Hospice in Centennial, Colorado following a short illness.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Casper on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00am, with graveside services at Oregon Trail Veteran's Cemetery to follow. A rosary will be recited at Newcomer Funeral Home on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 6:00pm.
Vi was born on April 13, 1923 in Billings, Montana to Alec and Mayme Cammock. She graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1941. She married her beloved husband of 54 years, Paul Kinsfather, on September 15, 1948. They made their first home in Worland, Wyoming where their two daughters, Mary Kay and Paula Rae were born. In 1962, they relocated to Casper, where they found their true home. They were long time parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. They were also members of the Paradise Valley Country Club, Alcova Trailer Park Association, Elks Club, and Casper Boat Club. Vi moved to Littleton, CO in 2008 to be near her two daughters after Paul's death in 2003.
Vi was a working mother, before it was fashionable, and held many secretarial and administrative positions throughout her career, including chief clerk at the Wyoming Industrial Institute for Boys in Worland, Wyoming; administrative assistant to the director of Valley Manor and Dr. H.E. Stuckenhoff in Casper; and guidance secretary for the Natrona County School District in Casper where she mentored and guided many youth and young adults at East Junior High, Dean Morgan Junior High, and Natrona County High School.
In addition to her family and career, Vi was always very active in the Casper community, where she was well known and respected for her involvement as a Campfire Girls leader, a Casper Junior Bowling coach for 15 years, a coach for girls' youth softball, president of the local and state NCAEOP for school secretaries, state chairwoman for the Democratic party, St. Gerard Circle officer, and Bishop's Guild president. After her retirement she volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at the Wyoming Medical Center.
Vi's true passion (and now her legacy) was always kids and sports. She and Paul were permanent fixtures at all local and state sports activities whenever possible for over 35 years. This included Jr. High, High School, American Legion, Connie Mack, recreational softball, Casper College, University of Wyoming, Casper and Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets and Denver Broncos. Vi "bled" orange and black for her NCHS Mustangs and was named #1 NCHS Fan in 1969. She and Paul were also recognized in March of 2003 as #1 High School Fans for the state of Wyoming. Their motto was "We love kids and will keep supporting them until we can't walk anymore. It's a good combination."
Vi was a true blessing to her family and many friends. Her infectious love of life, sense of humor and compassion for others will be dearly missed. She passed these traits on to her children and grandchildren, and was a wonderful role model for working hard in life, persistence, having a passion for what you believe in, and always be yourself. She always said to treat others how you want to be treated.
Vi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul; son, Dick Saks; parents Alec and Mayme Cammock; and sister, Kathryn Smith. Vi is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay (MK) Kinsfather of Littleton, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law, Paula Rae and Rod Brauer of Centennial, Colorado; six grandchildren including Molly Brauer and Greg Brauer; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Vi can be made to Porter Hospice, 5020 East Arapahoe Road, Centennial, Colorado 80122.
