Verna Jean Johnson, age 72, of Casper died January 6, 2011 at her home.
Verna Jean Smith was born September 11, 1938 to Reynold Charles and Catherine Marie (Wardle) Smith in Casper, Wyoming. She was the seventh and youngest child and after her mother's death, the family moved to Utah. She graduated from West Jordan High School in Salt Lake City in 1956. After working in Salt Lake for a period of time, she returned to Casper and attained her cosmetology license.
She married Earl Roy Johnson on April 7, 1962 and they had one daughter Sabrina Lynn. They owned and operated the Town & Country Beauty Salon. Later she owned and operated Hairtique Salon where she acquired many friends from her large clientele. Sabrina followed in her mother's footsteps and also worked as a cosmetologist until her untimely death in 2001.
Verna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, active in the Relief Society, and interested in her family's genealogy. She also delivered Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her daughter Sabrina, her parents, sisters Shirley, Marie, Cathy, and Darlene, and brother Melvin.
Verna is survived by her two grandsons Tyler and Chase Muckley of Casper, who were the pride of her life. Also surviving her are her brother Charles (Edith) Smith of Casper, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
The service will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the LDS Church, 6th Ward at 7th and Missouri, Casper. Viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Newcomer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and visitation will be Tuesday, January 11th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted at the Douglas Park Cemetery, in Douglas, Wyoming weather permitting.
In lieu of flowers, Verna's family requests any memorial donations be made to LDS Casper 6th Ward Humanitarian Aid or Casper Meals on Wheels.
