Valerie C. Broadbent, 62, a long time educator in South Routt, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 5, 2015. She passed peacefully at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions in Casper, Wyoming after a two-year battle with cancer. Valerie was born the youngest of four children to Alfred and Petronella Hettinger and grew up on a farm outside of White Lake, South Dakota. She graduated from White Lake High School in 1971 and from South Dakota State University in 1975. She later went on to earn her Master's degree through Adams State University while teaching in South Routt. Valerie married Charles Broadbent of Brookings, South Dakota during the fall semester of her senior year at South Dakota State University on December 24, 1975. Chuck and Valerie moved to the Yampa Valley in the fall of 1989, for the second time after various moves and a seven year stint in the Hawk Springs, Wyoming area, and called the Rocky Mountains home until each of their deaths in 2009 and 2015, respectively. Valerie had recently moved to Casper, Wyoming in September of 2014 to help take care of her granddaughter, Augusta, and although she made a home there, anyone who ever lived in the Yampa Valley will always consider it their "home". Both Chuck and Valerie Broadbent will be remembered for their servant hearts and generosity through their professions as a plumber and an educator, respectively, and especially by their love for and relationship with Jesus Christ. Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Petronella Hettinger, and her husband, Chuck Broadbent; and is survived by her daughters, Katie Broadbent and Sarah (Bryan) Prosinski; granddaughter, Augusta Prosinski; brothers, Gordon (Diana) Hettinger and Russell (Jan) Hettinger; sister, Bonnie (Joey) Brynteson, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as many close friends whom she considered family. A celebration of Valerie's life will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 2 p.m. at SoRoCo High School in Oak Creek, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to organizations that Valerie supported and were dear to her heart.
