Troy Lee Stirrett passed way at home Sunday, August 4, 2013. He succumbed to a long struggle of addiction. A memorial service is planned for Friday, August 9, 2013, 10:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home.
Troy was born on August 9, 1962; he was the fourth of 16 grandchildren in the Coleman family. Earlier in his life he loved to hunt and fish and was a good friend and brother. He was a talented student in school and earned excellent grades, he participated and excelled in basketball, baseball and football. He made many friends on and off of the field. He played for the Casper Babe Ruth All Star Team. At 15 Troy played legion ball and was on the starting rotation for the Oilers. He pitched a "No Hitter," against a good Colorado Team.
Troy Graduated from Mitchell High School, in Nebraska in 1980 where he started varsity in basketball and football. In 1985 he earned his BA Degree in Criminal Justice from Chadron State College. He began his professional journey as a counselor for struggling youth in Rawlins, WY. He returned to Casper in the early 90's. He continued in his athletic pursuits playing competitive softball and other recreational sports.
Troy tried to lead a productive life. However, he couldn't overcome the power of his addiction and the choices he made. A normal day to day existence was a very hard experience for him. We as family take comfort in knowing that he is now free from this torment. The Troy we used to know has been gone for some time now yet his absence removes any glimmer of hope for change and will leave a void in the lives of family and friends. Though none of us are perfect in our faith we believe our Heavenly Father and Savior will be waiting for each of us as we arrive. We have no doubt that he is in good hands and can now rest. We are also thankful that his closest family members will now have an opportunity to live their own lives without the daily stress that addiction can bring.
Troy is survived by his mother Delores Stirrett of Casper; his brother Timothy (Cindy) Stirrett of Casper; his nephew Michael Stirrett of Casper; and his daughter Emily DiVita of Casper; and numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his Father Robert Stirrett.
I lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to I-Reach 2 Inc., of Casper. To send condolences to the family please visit: www.newcomercasper.com.
