Thomas A. Staffileno 1941 - 2009
Tom Staffileno died peacefully at his home on June 1, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born February 26, 1941, in Wheeling, West Virginia to Elizabeth and Ralph Staffileno. Tom graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1958. He earned a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Wyoming in 1965.
After high school, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Janice Pavlic. Tom's teaching career began in the high school where he had been a student in Wellsburg, West Virginia. Tom and Jan then moved to Casper, Wyoming where he taught and coached for the last forty years. Coach Staff was influential in sports at East Junior High School, Kelly Walsh High School and Centennial Junior High School. Winning records, undefeated teams and State Championships are listed on his resume. More importantly was his ability to coach teamwork, integrity and character.
In addition to being a unique coach, Mr. Staff, was able to teach math to all levels. Tom was able to reach out to students and help them recognize the importance of mathematics and learning. He made math fun and important.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Staffileno (Nepa) and his father, Ralph Staffileno, both of Giulianova, Italy and Wellsburg, West Virginia. Tom is survived by his wife, Janice Staffileno, his children Michael Staffileno (Marianne), Gregory Staffileno (Kristen) and Arianne Staffileno (Matthew Carey), and six grandsons: Thomas, Ryan, Chad and Nicholas Staffileno and Jacob and Joseph Geil. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Potter and brother, Bob Staffileno, both of Wells burg, West Virginia.

Tom will be greatly missed by his family, friends and students and all those who knew him. He was an advocate of giving one hundred percent and allowing the best team to win. To this day, we can all hear him saying, "Suck it up, it's the fourth quarter."
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:00 am in St Patrick's Catholic Church with inurnment to follow in Highland Cemetery. A reception will follow the inurnment at the Kelly Walsh High School cafeteria.
