Thomas Ernest McGeorge passed away at the age of 80 on August 3, 2021. He was born February 9, 1941, in Michigan to Glen and Virginia (Michalski) McGeorge. His father Glen was a career Coast Guard noncommissioned officer which allowed Tom to find his love of the water early on living near a shore wherever they went.
As life went on, he graduated High School in Grand Haven, Michigan and attended Ferris College. During this time, he became a full-time professional ski patrolman at Boyne Mountain Resort for the next few winters. Through good luck and his very good friend he went on a trip of a lifetime sailing through the Mediterranean, North Africa, Egypt, the Near East, Russia, Croatia, Italy, Spain and off to England. Returning to Michigan and not wanting to stay off the water he and his brother Gram owned at least 4 different Hobie Cat catamarans. In the 60's, Tom began working for Ryder Trucking Rental and continued for the next 22 years.
With a new life path in mind Tom moved to Hawaii in 1987 and pursued a US Coast Guard Masters License. In 1989 he met Joanne Germon and was soon married. Building a home together they agreed the nest should grow and in 1994 they adopt their only child, Morgan McGeorge. Attending the Pacific Maritime Academy and receiving a 25-ton master's license, sailed many inter-island charters on 50-foot sail boats and skippered several Honolulu dinner cruise vessels. Along the way he was ordained as a minster and did hundreds of civilian and military weddings. In 1993 the 208-foot oil spill ship the Hawaii Responder arrived in Honolulu and he became one of the nine crew members aboard. For the following 15 years he raised his license to 1600 ton "oceans" and would then earn the title of Chief Mate of the vessel he so loved.
As life slowed down so did Tom and so he and his family once again packed up and moved to Casper, Wyoming. His interests in Western History grew and he joined the Trail Center as a docent. He spent time enjoying Olli classes at the college and taught skiing at Hogadon.
Tom was a man of calm presence and peace and loved spending time in familiar moments of family and friends. He was a truly selfless person who opened his heart to all. He was always wearing his signature smile for everyone to see.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Germon; daughter Morgan McGeorge, granddaughter Lincoln McGeorge of Casper, WY; brothers and sisters Kim (Jeanne) McGeorge and their children of South Haven, Mi; Glen (Jan) McGeorge and their children of Portland, OR; Linda McGeorge and her children of Grand Haven, MI; and many nieces and nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Glen and Virginia (Michalski) McGeorge; brother Gram McGeorge; nephew Tom McGeorge; brother and sister Jim and Janice Germon; parents Dr. Albert and Dorthy Germon.
The service for Tom will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 16, 2021 at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Casper, Wyoming.
