Thomas J. Schoenewald, Jr.

September 28, 1923 — June 14, 2016

Thomas "Tommy" J. Schoenewald, Jr.

Tommy passed from this world on June 14, 2016 with his wife, Lucy, and family members by his side. He was 92.

He was born in Harper, Kansas September 28, 1923 and raised in Casper. Tommy attended Casper schools and was graduated from Natrona County High School in 1941. A veteran of World War II, Tommy was very proud that he was the first in line at the Casper recruiting office, the morning after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in the U.S Navy in Hawaii. After his discharge in 1945, Tommy soon began his 36-year career at Northern Utilities (later Kansas-Nebraska and then Kinder Morgan), following his father in the service department. He had the uncanny ability to diagnose a problem with a furnace and was often requested by Northern Utilities customers. Give Tommy an address anywhere in Casper, and he could tell you the brand of furnace at that residence. He briefly ran a successful furnace repair business, after his retirement from Kinder Morgan.

He was an excellent duplicate bridge player, competing in many in-state and out-of-state tournaments. He went dancing as often as he could, especially at the Elks Club and the Senior Center. Tommy also loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and relaxing at Alcova with son, Mickey. He was able to travel later in life to many states, Europe, and visited where he was stationed in Hawaii at Camp Erdman.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas (Schoeny) and Olive, sister Leoni, wives Shirley and Jean, and one step-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife Lucy, sister Mary Jean of Denver, sons Dan of Casper, Mickey (Kathy) of Casper, T.J. (Lea) of Thermopolis, 3 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by stepsons Tim (Missy) Graveman of Casper, Tom (Sheila) Graveman of Lead, SD, stepdaughters Donna (Dick) Ragsdale of Casper, Denise (Roderick) O'Conner of Carbondale, CO, Dotty (Nick) Villalobos of Las Cruces, NM, 8 step-grandchildren, and 20 step-great- grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, June 20, 2016 at the funeral home Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery in Evansville, WY at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Casper Senior Center or a charity of choice would be welcome.
