Sylvia, a woman of indomitable spirit and a love for the sea from her birthplace of Gloucester, Massachusetts, that ran as deep as the ocean itself, peacefully passed away on March 1, 2024, at the Banner Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming, surrounded by her loving friends. She was 88 years old.
Born with the salty breeze of Gloucester in her veins, Sylvia's heart forever belonged to the sea. From the moment she first gazed upon the vast expanse of the Atlantic, she felt its call, its pull, and its eternal embrace. Her love for the sea shaped her life's journey, guiding her through every crest and trough with unwavering determination.
In the 1980s, Sylvia embarked on a new adventure, leaving the familiar shores of Gloucester behind to seek solace amidst the sprawling landscapes of Wyoming. Though far from the ocean she adored, Sylvia found comfort in the rugged beauty of the Midwest, where the whispering winds echoed the songs of the sea.
Throughout her life, Sylvia found solace and joy in the simplest of pleasures. She was an avid reader, her home filled with the tales of far-off lands and daring adventures. She could often be found with a book in hand, lost in the depths of its pages, her imagination carried away by the words of her favorite authors.
In her moments of quiet reflection, Sylvia turned to the canvas, where she expressed her innermost thoughts and emotions through the stroke of a brush. Her paintings, like windows into her soul, captured the essence of the sea that forever held a special place in her heart.
But above all else, Sylvia cherished the company of her loved ones. Her friends were her family, and their bond was unbreakable. Together, they shared laughter and tears, triumphs and tribulations, weaving the fabric of a life well-lived.
Though Sylvia may have left this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the gentle lapping of the waves, the roaring winds of the mountains, the pages of her favorite books, and the strokes of her paintbrush. She leaves behind a legacy of love, courage, and unwavering determination that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Richard C. Cody, Jr.; Kaja M. Carrancho; sister, Rudina "Deena" Enos; granddaughter, Joanna E. Russo; grandson, Sean Cody; nephew, Charles Enos; and great grandchildren, Alexia Dawn and Anthony David.
She was preceded in death by her parents John "Junk" and Hilda Johnson; son-in-law, Bruce Carrancho; brother-in-law, Robert Enos, nephew, Christopher Cody; and grandson-in-law, Gerald A. Russo.
She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing in her life's journey.
May she rest in eternal peace, forever cradled in the embrace of the sea she so dearly loved.
