Stanley Lewis Wedlock

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Stanley Wedlock, 85, at 12:15 pm on Friday, February 6, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. A luncheon for friends and family will follow in the church hall immediately after the service.
Stan passed away in the presence of family on February 4, 2009, at Wyoming Medical Center. Stanley Lewis Wedlock was born in the coal-mining town of Gebo, Wyoming on October 30, 1923, to Alfred Stanley and Annie Louise (Cole) Wedlock; he was the eldest of three sons. Stan attended school in Gebo, and graduated from Thermopolis High School in 1941.

Stan joined the Marine Corps in August of that same year with his brother, Leland Roy Wedlock. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and valiantly fought in the campaigns in the Solomon Islands (Tulagi and Guadalcanal), the Gilbert Islands (Tarawa), and the Mariana Islands (Siapan and Tinian). He was honorably discharged in 1945. Stan married Angeline Surbaro Apple on Sept. 1, 1946. They enjoyed 58 years and seven children together while living in California and Wyoming. He spent his career as a self-employed electrical contractor, and was proud of his affiliation with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Wyoming, which gave him the distinction of being the Electrical Foreman on such projects as the Dave Johnston Power Plant and the Dick Cheney Federal Building.

Stan spent his free time entertaining the many visitors he and Angie received daily. He spent many years as a gold prospector trying to find the "mother-lode" in the hills of Utah and the Snowy Range Mountains. Stan's interests included tending to his prized vegetable gardens, having his hair combed by his children and grandchildren (for a nickel), and turning paper dollars into yet another gold quest as a frequent visitor to the casinos. Stan was a devout Catholic, having been a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 40 years. He also served as a member of the Knights of Columbus in California.
Stan will always be remembered for his passionate devotion to God, his affection for his large family, as well as his appreciation for the volume switch on his hearing aid. He was known as an infectious jokester whose favorite song was Mac Davis's "Oh Lord, It's Hard to be Humble"…sung for all occasions as autobiographical.

After Angie's passing in 2005, Stan met yet another wonderful lady, Carol O'Dell Murphy, in 2007. They were married on December 18th of that same year, and they doted on each other for the time they were together.

Stan is survived by his wife, Carol, of Casper; brother Robert Ewing Wedlock (Cheryl) of Casper; children Patricia Wedlock of California, Linda Moser (Ron Witt) of Casper, Mary (Steve) Houck of Casper, Gregory (Debbie Jo) Wedlock of Colorado, Phillip Wedlock of Nevada, Monica Wedlock of California, and Debra Wedlock-Fetter (Greg Fetter) of Arizona; 7 stepchildren, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His first wife, Angie, his parents, and his brother, Leland, precedes him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Holy Cross Center (1030 North Lincoln Street, Casper, WY 82601) or St. Anthony Tri-Parish School (218 East 7th Street, Casper, WY 82601). Newcomer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
