Shirley (Shirl) A. Vetten, 81, of Casper passed away of natural causes 11/20/2008 after a brief illness. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday November 24, 2008 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. On Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 10:30 am a funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church, followed by a reception at 12 noon in the church basement.
Shirl was born August 22, 1927 in Beach, North Dakota to John and Della Kukowski. She spent her early years helping on the family farms until she moved to Bismarck and became a telephone operator. She married William (Bill) Vetten while he was working for Gulf Oil Corporation after his service in WW II. Shirl and Bill moved around to several locations during their marriage as they raised a family and followed Bill's career. Shirl embraced frequent re-locations and always made them a positive new adventure in her life, making new friends along the way and teaching her children how to enjoy the new experiences.
Shirl loved all of her immediate and extended family very much and they were always her main focus. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, church activities, and many outdoor activities in her younger years. She had a great sense of humor and a strong sense of family and always made the happiness and needs of others a priority in her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her daughter Donnie Vetten Wallingford, her parents, and all of her three brothers and two sisters.
Shirl is survived by her daughter Jackie Jackson of Henderson, Nevada, her son Skip of Boise, Idaho, her son John of Casper, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Kristen and husband Travis, Michael, Jake, Jordan; four great grandchildren, Anthony, Natalia, Kaitlin, McKenzie; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and many, many life long friends.
