CASPER, WY - Sharon Lee Long passed away peacefully on Friday the 20th of March 2009 after a long illness.
She was born on January 18, 1941 to Graden R. and Dorothy Wyatt Bickle in Traverse City, Michigan. Sharon was the oldest of five brothers and sisters. She graduated from Traverse City High School in 1959 and attended Northwestern Community College where she was crowned homecoming queen in 1960.
Sharon married Gale Long on August 8, 1980 in Suttons Bay, Michigan. They spent 2 years in Suttons Bay before moving back to Traverse City and then to Casper in 1992. It is there that Sharon found her niche as a strong Democrat fighting for environmental issues, campaigning for fellow Democrats, and marching for peace. She was a candidate for the State Legislature and the Natrona County Commission. Sharon was an advocate for humanitarianism and lived her life accordingly.
Sharon's quirky sense of humor touched everyone she met. She was a frequent patron of yard sales and thrift stores. She always bought an item if a child was trying to make a sale no matter its appeal.
Sharon is survived by and forever missed by her husband Gale Long, children Mark Martinek, Megan Kim (Husband Michael Kim), & Graden Long, along with her cherished grandchildren Kaylee, Korin, Christian, Kaya, Chloe, Conrad, and Owen (lovingly nicknamed "Clydie" by his Grandma Long to match the initial Ikl theme among her grandchildren). She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Douglas G. Bickle, Bonnie J. Johnson, Gail M. Clous, Peggy L. Pobuda, and Gregory D. Bickle.
Cremation has taken place. Interment in Traverse City, Michigan will take place at a later date.
