Ernst Gottfried Sehlmeyer
Casper – A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Oregon Trail State Veterans' Cemetery Chapel in Evansville for Ernie Sehlmeyer, who passed away in his sleep on August 25, 2005 at his home in Casper. Military honors will be conducted by the Natrona County Veterans' Council. Ernie was born on March 9, 1920 in Great Kills, Staten Island, NY. He was an Eagle Scout and a Naval Aviator during WWII. He married Jean Hancock on March 17, 1946 in Peoria, IL. Ernie held a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Iowa. He initially worked for Kodak in Rochester, NY, and then as an aeronautical engineer for United Air Lines at the San Francisco maintenance base for 30 years. He retired in 1985 and moved to Casper with his wife to be near his children and grandchildren. He has been an active member in the Civil Air Patrol in Casper for 20 years. Ernie is survived by his wife, Jean, his four children, Pete Sehlmeyer, Claire Venn, Barbara Buyske, Kris Graves, their spouses, Candace, Barry, Jim, Lynn, his grandchildren, Mike and Julie Sehlmeyer, Troy and Nick Lein, Brian and Lauren Venn, Lindsay Gillespie, Melissa and Kim Buyske, Jamie Schwartzkopf, Matt and Crystal Graves, and four great grandchildren, Bret.
