On Thursday, December 3, 2015, Ronald Allan Mathisen, Sr., went home to be with Jesus after a long and valiant battle with lupus. He was 71 years old.
Ron was born on August 3, 1944 in Casper, to Ralph Mathisen and Carleyn Jeanne (Hopkins). Ron graduated from Natrona County High School, and shortly thereafter he graduated from electronics school in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married his first wife Marilyn in 1967 and they had four children together, Ronald Jr., Christy, and twins Thomas and Sheri. Later he earned his general contractor's license. In 1978, he moved from California back to Casper and began a 32-year career with Casper College, retiring in 2010 as supervisor of building maintenance.
In 1993, his life took a most unexpected turn. In Southern California for a conference, he reconnected over lunch with his former sister-in-law, Karel. A romance quickly blossomed. They married in June of that year and enjoyed 22 amazing years. His wife was with him when he took his last breath.
Ron is survived by his wife, his mother, his sister Kim (Donnie) Browning, his brothers Tim (Mickey) and Tom (Judi) Mathisen, and his children Ron Jr., Thomas and Sheri (Darreld) Daugherty, his grandchildren, and his "honorary daughter," Heather.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his daughter Christy.
The family will have a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 10, 2015 Newcomer Funeral Home Casper Chapel with a potluck reception following at the VFW Casper Memorial Post 9439 on Bryan Stock Trail, all are welcome to attend.
