After a long and hard fought battle with throat cancer, Roger Wayne Shepherd passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 9, 2015 at his home in Mills, WY at the age of 56. He leaves behind his daughters, Sara Shepherd and Ashley Ramsey (Kyle); his grandsons, Mason, Kamdyn, and Karsen; and his granddaughter, Audrey.
Roger was born on June 8, 1959 in Miller, SD, to his father Gerald Shepherd, and mother Della Shepherd. As the youngest child, he grew up in a large, loving family with three sisters, and one brother. Raised on a farm in South Dakota, Roger has always had a great love of animals and horseback riding. He graduated from TF Riggs High School in Pierre, SD in 1978 and became a certified welder in 1980.
Roger married Lori Kastner on August 13, 1983. Shortly after they married, they relocated to Casper, WY, where Roger had accepted a position as a truck driver for Dixon Brothers Trucking. There the couple lived and raised their two daughters until they parted ways in 2000.
Roger was a hard-working man with an infectious laugh and smile. He had a love for gardening, barbequing, western novels, and NASCAR. When diagnosed with throat cancer for the second time in February of 2015, he remained dedicated in his work and in his will to fight his illness. He remained an optimistic, brave, and stubborn man even throughout his final days.
Roger is survived by his mother, daughters, and grandchildren as well as his sisters, Merry Shepherd, Maxine White (Tom), Barbara Snyder (Russell); his brother, Kerry Shepherd (Carol); and several nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, and his brother-in-law, Tom White.
Roger requested to be cremated. His ashes will be kept with his two daughters in Oklahoma City, OK. A celebration of life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on October 17, 2015 at 1:00pm; all friends and family are welcome to attend. The family would especially like to thank Donna French and Renae Darling, Roger's caregivers, for their excellent work and loving care; the staff of both Central Wyoming Hospice and Rocky Mountain Oncology for their constant, attentive treatment; and Newcomer Funeral Home, for making the arrangements. In lieu of cash, please send a donation in Roger's name to Relay for Life of Casper, WY.
