Roger L. Anderson

October 25, 1957 — March 1, 2018

Roger Lynn Anderson was born October 25th, 1957 to Richard and Dorothy (Dodson) Anderson in Boulder, Colorado. He was the third child of four and had a happy childhood filled with many good memories with his parents and siblings. Roger was the self-proclaimed "Rocky Mountain Kid" and enjoyed living in Colorado where he spent his youth outdoors playing Baseball, Downhill Skiing, Water Skiing and Swimming. Roger was a natural athlete and had many accomplishments both as a baseball player and a swimmer in his youth. He graduated high school in 1975 and hitchhiked his way to California intending to hike the Pacific Trail, got about a third of the way up and decided to spend the rest of his time on the beach. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Gillette, Wyoming where he became an accomplished Welder in the oil industry and created many memories with his cousin Wayne Anderson and close friends Raymond Dawkins and T.J. Kristopher. Roger met Robin Fernau in 1980 at The Pub in Lusk, Wyoming where she beat him at every game of pool with a cast on her wrist and the two were inseparable after. They were married in 1981 and welcomed home their first daughter, Ryan Lynn in 1983. In 1986 the family grew again with the birth of their second daughter, Stacy Rae and the family was complete in 1993 with the arrival of their youngest baby girl, Toni Renee. Roger spent many years as a welder both in the oilfield and doing custom work around Wyoming and Colorado. He enjoyed his job immensely and always told his girls he was 'the only real welder'. Roger never met a stranger and could make friends with anyone. Despite his rough demeanor, he was loved by many. Roger had a large group of friends and cared for each and every one of them. His girls would like to thank Neil Dunbar especially; for the countless hours he spent with Roger and the loyal friendship he gave him over the years. In 2016, Roger was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer but did not allow that diagnosis to bring him down and still went downhill skiing and spent time with his friends and family. He was quite fond of purchasing kites and flying them with his grandchildren. They have so many great memories of being outside with their Papa.

Roger was preceded in death by his loyal dogs Josie and Bo, both of whom he missed dearly. Also by his "Herkimer"; a partial denture that he used to chase his girls around the house with, that met its demise on a snowy ski hill in Eldora, Colorado.

Roger is survived by his parents: Richard "Andy" (Cheryl) Anderson and Dorothy (Cal) Truesdale, two brothers: Robin (Beth) Anderson, Russ (Carrie) Anderson and his "pain in the …." older sister, Diana Dunsire; all of whom he loved deeply in his own way.
Roger is also survived by his ex-wife: Robin Anderson who he maintained a strong friendship with until the very end, his daughters: Ryan (Zack) Andrews, who inherited his strong will, Stacy (Kael) Wood, who inherited his charm and Toni (Willie) Hinker, who inherited his sharp sense of humor. His legacy will live on in the lives of his seven Grandchildren, who all inherited his penchant for mischief: Kenley Wood, Dottie Andrews, Wesley Wood, Rockne Andrews, Bosten Wood, Ily Andrews and Hattie Andrews.

Roger Anderson was one righteous, right-on dude.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Wyoming at 2:00PM. Cremation has taken place and the Rocky Mountain Kid will be returned home this summer.
