Roberta (Bobby) Waldram, 99, passed away in her home on February 5th. Born June 20, 1919 in Franklin County Missouri to Ben F and Cora (Schultze) Geisert at their farm home; their first child of five.
Her early years were spent with siblings exploring the wonders of the farm. She attended schools in nearby Washington graduating from high school in 1936, and then continued her education at the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating in 1940 with a BS degree in Vocational Home Economics. During the college years she was a member of Chi Omega social sorority, played the flute in the University symphony, participated in several extracurricular activities and was a member of Mortar Board and several scholastic honoraries.
The following 2 years were spent teaching Home Economics at Sullivan, Mo. High School. In October 1942 Bobby married Robert (Bob) Waldram who had received his M.A. degree in Geology that year and who had been inducted into the US Naval Reserve. During WW2, when Bob was not in the South Pacific, the couple lived in Washington, DC. After discharge from the Navy, Bob's employment with Carter Oil (now Exxon) as a geologist found them residing in Mattoon or Carmi Illinois for 8 years. In 1954, they were transferred to Casper, WY which has been the family residence ever since.
Bobby was actively involved with the community, a 70+ year member of P.E.O.-Chapter Y in Casper, a G.E.O wives member since 1954, Presbyterian Church member/Deacon, a Wyoming Medical Center Volunteer with 8000 hours of service, and played bridge in a number of groups. She was the first Home Economics teacher at the (then new) Kelly Walsh High School from 1965-68. In later years, 1972-77, she taught at NCHS.
After her husband retired, the couple traveled extensively in the western US and Alaska via the "Blue Roads", and less travelled by-ways, played golf, bridge, and visited family in the mid-west.
Though her accomplishments were many, her true legacy was an absorbing interest in others and a truly positive outlook on life. She imparted this attitude to others by example, not words. She genuinely connected with people of all ages and was concerned about their welfare. She was the ultimate example of a "the glass is half full" person.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister Geraldine Wyatt, one brother Ben A Geisert, and her husband of 58 ½ years.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Hugh) Wallnutt of Colorado Springs, Jim Waldram of Laramie, WY, Martha (Tim) Cattabiani of Columbus, OH, five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Betty Rademaker and brother James F (Lyndia) Geisert of Washington, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Saturday, June 1st, at noon, with a reception to follow at the Casper Shrine Club.
Mel's Helping Hand, Kristee Nelson, Meals on Wheels, and the efforts of her family (especially those of her son Jim) were of highest importance in enabling her to stay in her own home until the time of her death. In lieu of flowers we request a memorial donation to Casper's Meals on Wheels.
