Robert "Bob" D. Wanbaugh, 78, lost his fight with cancer and left the earth to be with his Savior June 3, 2012. He passed away at home with his loving family by his side.
Bob was born May 8, 1934 in Abilene, KS to Thomas J. and Anna A. Wanbaugh. After graduating high school in Wichita, KS, Bob moved to Cheyenne to work for the UPRR. While in Cheyenne, he met his future wife, Betty. They were married June 16, 1956. He served the Cheyenne, Gillette, and Douglas Police Departments, and worked for Conoco Oil Company and the Converse County School District before finally retiring in 1997 and moving to Casper in 2002.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather supporting his children's and grandchildren's activities. Being a deeply patriotic and spiritual person, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Douglas and Casper where he helped with Vacation Bible and Sunday Schools. He enjoyed country music, reading, and history and going to the cabin in the mountains with family, including his dog.
Bob had a special place in his heart for children and pets. He was often called "Grandpa Bob" by the neighborhood children. Bob was always smiling and had a kind word for almost anyone. He was known for his famous one-liners keeping everybody laughing and thinking.
Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years; two children, Lisa Wheeler (Randy) of Grantsville, UT and Michael Wanbaugh (Jamie) of Casper; and six grandchildren, Charles Wheeler (Emily) FT Hood, TX, Chlorissa Goddard (Matt), and Keith Wheeler, Andrew, Katie, and Krista Wanbaugh; and two great-grandchildren, Robert and Ethan Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Casper on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 2 p.m.
