Robert "Bob" Duane Spencer, 78, died March 2, 2009 at his home in Casper. He was born March 2, 1931 in Newcastle, WY to Robert and Leona Spencer. Bob attended grade school in Glenrock and Idaho and graduated from high school in Taft, OR. He was a member of the Portland Junior Symphony playing the trumpet. He joined the US Navy in 1948, graduated from the Hospital Corps School and was sent to Japan in 1950. Bob was a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marine Corp. Served in the 1st Fleet Morsed Forced and Surgical Team #15 and was discharged from the Navy in 1952. He was married in 1954 and had three children, Craig, Kimberly and Mark. In March of 1955 he joined the Casper Police Dept. and in 1966 he left the department to become the Under Sheriff in Jackson Hole. In 1970 Bob returned to Casper and joined the Natrona Sheriff Dept. retiring in 1986. In 1972 he married Bette Stucker, mother of Jeff and Rean. Bob attended FBI Academy in Quantico, VA in 1978 and later became the Chief Criminal Investigator for the Sate of Wyoming in 1977. After retirement he became the Head of Security of the Hilton Hotel in Casper then became the Night manager and Chief of Security at the Hilton in Santa Fe, NM from 1989 to 1996 then returned to Casper. Bob was an 18 year member of the Marine Corp League, the last three years in the Central Wyoming Detachment. Bob enjoyed gold panning, photography, fishing, working in the yard and garden and going to Casinos.

Survivors include his wife Bette of Casper; 5 children, Craig of Arizona, Kim (Bruce) of Washington, Mark of Montana, Jeff (Danette) and Rean (Mike) both of Colorado; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Rainey and niece Rhonda Hockaday both of Glenrock. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a nephew Terry Rainey of Glenrock.

Visitation will be held Saturday March 7, from 3 to 7 PM in Newcomer Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Monday March 9, at 11 AM at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery.
