CASPER -- Funeral services for Robert C. Jones, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Bob Fox officiating. Burial will be in Oregon Trail State Veterans' Cemetery with military honors accorded by the United Veterans' Council and Wyoming National Guard.

Visitation is Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m., until the Vigil at the funeral home

He died Sept. 30, 2007, at Life Care Center.

He was born May 31, 1923, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the son of Joseph P. Jones and Lora E. Perry, the youngest of seven children. He graduated from high school in Mitchell, Neb. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until he joined the Navy in 1943. He served in the South Pacific on the battleship USS New Mexico in World War II. He was transferred to Butte, Mont., for officers' training at the Montana School of Mines.

He met Lorraine Arrigoni there and they were married in 1946. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in June 1947 as a civil engineer. He went to work for Standard Oil in Casper in November 1947.

He retired from Amoco in 1982 as chief engineer after 35 years. He was a talented musician and in retirement, he built beautiful violins and mandolins and repaired all string instruments. He gave the gift of music to his children and grandchildren. He supplied them all with instruments and encouragement.

He was a member of the Casper Fiddlers Club, drove Meals on Wheels for 22 years and was an usher at Our Lady of Fatima Church for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife of Casper, four children and their spouses, Julianne M. Lefevre of Lander, Mark R. Jones of Saratoga, Perry J. Jones of Cheyenne and Lori C. Jacobson of Loveland, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
