Robert Ray Houghtaling

Born in Glendive Montana June 13th, 1927 to Harry and Faye Houghtaling.

Died August 4th 2015, in Casper Wyoming at the age of 88.

At age of 2 years old his parents left Montana and moved to Fremont Ohio, where Robert grew up with his three brothers and two sisters and graduated from Fremont High School. In 1949 he married his High School sweetheart Margaret Aileen King. They were married for 62 years until Margaret's death in January 2011. They had two children Rae Ann and Robert Jay. He is survived by his son Robert, daughter-in-law Lynn, son-in-law Larry Plumb and a sister in Georgia.

In 1945 he joined the Merchant Marines and saw active duty in the Atlantic and Pacific at the end of WWII. In 1952 he was drafted by the army and fought in the Korean War, making rank of staff sergeant. During the 1950's he move out west hoping to work on his Uncle Don's ranch located in Montana, but ended up working 36 years for AT&T in Casper Wyoming.

Robert was an expert marksman and won many medals and trophies in 22 long rifle competition matches. He learned to play bass and guitar in Casper. He played acoustic bass and played with several bands, but mostly with Chick Erickson, Jim Harnish, Bob Hines and finished his career with Lou Math playing every weekend for 14 straight years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, NRA and Elks Lodge in Casper.

He is interned next to his wife at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery.
