CASPER -- Robert (Bob) Burke Harshman, 79, died January 23, 2009, at his home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Father Robert Fox will officiate. Internment will be at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
He was born October 17, 1929, in Bridgeport, Nebraska, to Roy T. and Mary L.(Burke) Harshman.
He attended school in Bridgeport, Nebraska, graduating from Bridgeport High School, in 1947.
Following graduation, he joined the U. S. Navy, where he served for five years. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
Robert married Janet Sanders, on November 27, 1954, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Casper where they made their home and raised their family.
In 1953, he went to work for Platte Pipeline Co. (later Marathon Pipeline Co.), as an electrician and later as a corrosion engineer. He earned his professional engineer license (corrosion), in the state of California. He was one of the founding members of the Wyoming Underground Corrosion Committee, and a past member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. He retired in 1986.
He was a long time member of the Casper Water Ski Club, and a past member of the Lions Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, Western history and most of all his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet; his children, Mark (Tracy), Shaun (Jenny), Chloe Lindsey (Lane), all of Casper, Sharon Gray (Dave) of Rock Springs, Kristin Jackson (Joe) of Cheyenne, and Jill Anderson (Chuck) of Grand Junction, Colo. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, Emily, Justin, Steven, Michael, Morgan, Jessica, Kelly, Molly, Erin, Jacob, Lauren, Caleb, Lane, and Bridger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center or Fort Caspar.
