CASPER -- Funeral services for Robert Dixon "Bob" Walker, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Highland Park Community Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery, St. John's, Kan.
He died April 20, 2008, at the Wyoming Medical Center after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 9, 1934, St. John's, Kan., the son of Gaylord and Lillie (Orf) Walker. He was a 1952 graduate of St. John's High School. During his high school years he enjoyed playing football. After high school he went to work as a lineman in Kansas.
He worked in the oil field as a roughneck, driller, and tool pusher until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed the challenges of his hard work. He knew rigs like the back of his hand and always wanted to talk oil field with family and friends.
On Oct. 27, 1956 he married Genevieve "Kay" Hansen in Kenmare, N.D.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His proudest and last hunting trip was shooting a 7 X 7 elk after he was diagnosed with cancer.
He loved showing off the elk photos and bragging about the hunt.
He loved his family and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his son, Timothy C. Walker and his wife of Casper, daughters, Lilly Zimmerman and her husband of Casper, Cheryl Chastek and her husband of Clearmont, Fla., Diana Zietz and her husband of Dickinson, N.D.; sisters, Norma Workman and her husband of Medicine Lodge, Kan., Pauline Walker of Frontenac, Kan.; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Thelma Vettle; brothers, Wayne, Homer, Darrel, and Ed Walker; his daughter, Kathy Walker; two sons, Robert Anthony Walker and Keith Walker; two granddaughters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Casper is assisting the family.
