Life History:
On the evening of 7 March 2006, Robert Edward DeLany, Sr., of Wheatland, Wyoming,
made the transition to rejoin his creator, at Shepherd of the Valley in Casper.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles V. and Belva DeLany on 21 December 1922,
Robert lived a long and happy life of 83 years.
Robert was preceded in his transition by his loving wife of 51 years of marriage,
Maurine Elida DeLany, on 28 April 1996. He is survived by his older brother Jack
and his younger sister, Jane.
He is also survived by his six sons:
Robert Edward, Jr., Lorren Lee, Daniel Charles, Timothy Alan, David Lynn and Benjamin Reed,
along with too many grandchildren and great grandchildren to list here, all of whom loved him dearly.
Upon graduating High School, Robert gained employment as a truck driver to help save for a college education;
he always loved new scenery and the great outdoors. It would be his first and one of his last jobs.
Robert attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, where he met his future wife and was married on 12 December 1944.
While attending school, he answered his country's call and joined the U.S. Marines,
serving in police actions in China until 1946.
He attended Washington University in St. Louis and later attained a B.S. in
Education through Southern Illinois University in 1950, with a history major.
While Robert had a widely varied employment history,
he always leaned back toward education, whether in fact or by example.
He was an Elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,
serving as pastor of several congregations. Robert performed the wedding ceremony for several of his
sons and at least one of his grandchildren.
In the 1960's in St. Louis, he and his wife set up a free neighborhood recreation center
in the basement of the family home and on several occasions held summer Bible school classes in the living room.
He was a licensed real estate broker (owning his own company for a time), a licensed insurance agent,
High School English teacher, elementary school principal and eighth grade math teacher.
Robert often worked more than one job to help his family.
For a time he and his wife served as the Platte County Jailers in Wheatland.
During his last years of employment, Robert was a truck driver,
a bus driver for the senior citizen's center in Wheatland and a tutor for elementary school children.
Robert requested that no funeral services be held for him. He will be sorely missed.
