Robert "Bob" Underwood passed away June 4, 2016 at the Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions in Casper. He was born August 26, 1924 in Northwood, IA. His adopted parents were James and Alma (Carlson) Peterson.
He was raised in Northwood, IA and graduated from high school before enlisting in the Navy on April 21, 1943. He served as an electrician's mate in the Submarine Service during World War II and was honorably discharged on May 19, 1946.
On June 13, 1946 he married his wife, Helen L. Brager in Billings, Montana. They resided in Luverne, MN where Bob worked as a lineman for Bell Systems Telephone Company. In 1948 they moved to Midwest, WY and Bob worked as a lineman for Stanlind Oil and Gas which eventually became Amoco Production. He worked for the company for 38 years and held many positions including field foreman.
Bob and Helen raised three sons: Gray, Michael (Mick), and Vance. While Bob was raising his family he loved to camp and coach Little League. After his sons were raised Bob and Helen became avid snowmobilers.
Bob retired from Amoco Production in 1986. He and Helen then traveled much of the United States with their travel trailer. After these travels they spent the winters in Arizona, first in Yuma and later in Casa Grande until 2005. Since then they have been in their home in Casper.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; son, Gray (Cookie) of Casper; son, Mick (Linda) of Greeley, CO; son, Vance (Joni) of Yoder; granddaughter, Shelly (Blaine) Hytrek of Casper; granddaughter Amy (Lance) Peterson of Casper; granddaughter, Valorie Szlemko, of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Tracia Underwood of Greeley, CO; grandson, Robbie Miller of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter, Michele (Brian) Penney of Windsor, CO; step- brother, Donald (Roberta) Peterson of Rosemont, MN. Bob is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
