Richard Allen York

October 17, 1953 — August 18, 2022

Richard Allen York, 68, of Casper, Wyoming passed away August 18, 2022 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Richard was the youngest son of Kenneth and Violet (Kivisto) York and was born in Rawlins, Wyoming on October 17, 1953. He grew up in Bairoil, Wyoming, attending elementary and middle school there and graduating from Rawlins High School in 1972.

During school breaks and after graduation Richard worked at Billings Well Service and Amoco with his father.

In July 1974, Richard went to the 4th of July celebrations in Lander, Wyoming where he met Sandra Lloyd. They married in September 1974, and Sandra moved to Bairoil with son, Jamie. A few years later, daughter Kimberly was born. Richard and Sandra later divorced, remarried, and divorced for the final time in 2007.

In 1979 Richard and family moved to Casper, Wyoming, where he started oilfield trucking company, Diamond Y Hot Shot, with his father, Ken, and Uncle Floyd York. His son, Jamie often worked alongside Richard, his grandfather, and his Uncle Pete, who joined the family business as well.

Richard later worked at Smith International as a Sales and Service Professional throughout the Rocky Mountains and Dakotas. His daughter, Kimberly, later joined Richard at Smith International keeping the tradition of the York family working together.

After retiring, Richard did not want to travel; he often said, "I spent 25 years away from Casper, it's time I get to know it," which always made his daughter laugh. Instead, Richard renewed his "need for speed," developed in his youth riding motorcycles around Bairoil by buying more motorcycles. Richard would say, "A day of wind therapy is good for the heart and soul."

Richard loved to cook, particularly grilling on his Traeger and having friends over to share a meal, a joke, and good times. Richard also loved going to coffee with long-time oilfield friends, meeting often to share a cup and reminisce about the days of wooden derricks and sharing thoughts of the news of the day.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Pete; son, Jamie; and many friends he cared for deeply.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Kimberly York of Casper, Wyoming; brother, Stephen (Terry) York of Maryland; Uncle Floyd (Donna) York of Arizona; Aunt Mary Ann Phillips of Arizona; Aunt Janice (Mike) Ginter of Washington; numerous other relatives; and lifelong friends all around the country of whom Richard thought so dearly.

"Some of it's magic
Some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way." – Jimmy Buffett
