Richard Harvey Peters, 63, passed away in his Casper home on September 29, 2012. His family will hold private services in Wyoming and Michigan to spread his ashes in the two places that captivated his heart. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Disabled American Veterans. Cremation took place and was under the direction of Newcomer Funeral Home.
Richard was born February 26, 1949 to Wayne and Valerie Peters in Munising, Michigan. He graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1967, and on August 9, 1969 married Juanita Farler in Detroit. The couple had three sons, and in 1978 moved to Casper, where Richard began his 31 year career at Wyoming Machinery Company, retiring in 2010.
Richard loved sports and coached all three of his sons in Casper Junior Baseball. He enjoyed hiking in the Wyoming mountains with his sons, with Cloud Peak and Laramie Peak counting among his favorite adventures. In his younger years he enjoyed songwriting, and in his later years he gave generously to charities. Throughout his life Richard was a humble man who strove to continuously learn about the world while providing a better childhood for his children than he had himself.
Survivors include three sons, Richard, Michael, and Steven; four granddaughters, Heather, Katharine, Elisabeth, and Annelise; and ten siblings, Valerie, Kathleen, Patricia, Wayne, Linda, Sally, John, James, Steven, and David. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael.
