Our loving brother, uncle and cousin, Richard Irwin Tibbits, age 84, passed away June 2, 2016 at the Shepherd of the Valley Care Center.
Richard "Dick" was born to Chester Irwin Tibbits and Alma Alice Cline, on April 23, 1932 in Otto, Wyoming. Dick graduated from Lusk High School. Then he went to work for JC Penny.
Dick entered the Army in 1952 and was a Chinese interpreter and interrogator in Korea. He received the Bronze Star, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and two Purple Hearts.
After leaving the military, he attended Chadron State College graduating in 1959, and earning one of the last BA in Education degrees offered by the school. He was a member of the Blue Key Honor Fraternity and secretary of the Sigma Lou Gamma Men's Social Fraternity, and president of Sigma Delta Nu.
From 1959 through 1982 Dick worked for Chadron State College holding various positions. He then moved to Sutherland, Nebraska where he was the Librarian for grades 1 through 12 in the Sutherland School District. He retired and moved to Casper to be near his sister.
Dick loved to read and also being around his friends and family. His hobbies were collecting stamps, small vintage cars, and coins.
Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Robert Howell; half brother, Ron Tibbits; niece, Linda Cozart; niece, Barbara Lindsay; cousins, Evelyn Perry and her family, Audrey Hillhouse, and Bill Tibbits. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, and a nephew.
A Military Honor service will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Dick asked that you make donations to the Natrona County Library, the D.A.V., or the Casper Humane Society. Newcomer Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
