Richard (Dick) DePaemelere, 65, passed away peacefully at Central Wyoming Hospice on February 25. He succumbed to leukemia after a courageous eleven month battle.
He was born on February 10, 1949 to Albert (Bud) and Betty DePaemelere. He graduated from Kelly Walsh High School in 1967, earned a BA in education from the University of Wyoming in 1972, and got his master's degree from Lesley College in 1988.
He married his soul mate and the love of his life Susan Babcock on July 18, 1970. Two children were born out of their love.
Richard taught elementary school in Casper for 35 years at Manor Heights Elementary and Westwood Elementary. He was very proud of his contribution to the many 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade students he had the privilege to teach.
Among his life passions were his family, the Casper Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, camping, fly fishing, and photography. He had also been active in the Natrona County Education Association, Wyoming Fly Casters, and Grace Lutheran Church board.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law. He is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Michele Haagenson and husband Bill of Cheyenne, son Erik DePaemelere and wife Carrie of Casper and three grandchildren, Bailey Wall of Cheyenne,and Collin and Sierra DePaemelere of Casper. He is also survived by his sister Janice Cowell, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, his mother-in-law, three nieces, two nephews and numerous cousins.
No services will be held at the family's request. A memorial celebration of his life will be held during the summer at a time that will be announced later.
