Ray Powders was born in Unionville, Missouri on July 4, 1925 to Olga and Orville Powders. Ray was the youngest and last surviving of their four children. He moved to Denver at aged 13 and graduated from South High School. Ray enlisted in the Army when he was 18 and served 4 years mainly in Europe. After his discharge he returned to Denver to work for his dad selling cars. Ray worked many years as a manager at Walker Brothers Ford and at Viner Chevrolet before purchasing the Volkswagen dealership and moving to Casper in 1968. He was Casper's VW/Audi dealer for 43+ years. He met his wife Shirley in Denver and was married there on October 8, 1950. Ray and Shirley had three children: Ray, Cindy and Michael. Their oldest son Ray, also known as 'RP', graduated from NCHS and Casper College and trained to be a master mechanic. He worked with his dad in sales and service until his death in 2014. Cindy graduated from NCHS and University of Wyoming. She works with her husband Ira Wertenteil and does Interior Design work. Michael graduated from NCHS and University of Denver. He worked as an attorney in Denver several years then moved to London where he works as a corporate lawyer. Ray is survived by his wife of 68 years Shirley, children Cindy and Michael, and grandchildren Matthew, Mark and Thomas. Services will be at Newcomer Casper Chapel at 10 am on Saturday, July 27th.
