Porter Kirkwood

Porter Kirkwood was born April 22, 1934 to Helen Caroline Lame Kirkwood and Porter Kirkwood Sr., in Denver, Colorado.

Porter joined the Naval Air Reserve in 1949. He was a sheet metal man, working on airplanes. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

He married Ogalee "Lee" Wyatt in 1949. He worked for Silver Engineering. They had four children; Michael Joe, Randall Wayne, James Porter, and Linda Lee. They moved to Casper in 1950 so he could be a sheet metal apprentice. As a union journeyman, Porter worked all over the state of Wyoming.

In 1961, Porter became a master sheet metal man. In 1965 he married Kathy Davis and they had one son, John.

In 1966 Porter married Sandra Sue "Sam" Black, they had two daughters, Jolinna Michelle and Deborah Elizabeth who died at the age of 30 from ovarian cancer.

In 1972 Porter was superintendent for Waldinger Corp; one of the largest sheet metal companies in the world. While he was employed with them, he and his crew installed one million three hundred thousand pounds of duct work at Jim Bridger Power Plant near Rock Springs, WY. Then he went to Gillette and put in one million five hundred thousand pounds of duct work in the power plant. Then he went back to Rock Springs to do the Black Butte Mine.

In 1987 they moved to Rawlins, Wy. and he started his own business; the first one was "Alpha and Omega". Then he had to change the name to "Two feathers Construction and Heating."

Porter became charter president of the New Battie Mountain Lions Clubs of Rawlins in 1988. This office he held for one year. He was zone chairman, Deputy District Governor. His membership ended when the Lions Club disbanded.

Porter worked at the State Penitentiary for eleven years on maintenance.

Sam passed away from metastatic carcinoma in 2004.

Porter is survived by his sister Carol Brungardt, of Casper, Wy; his sons: Micheal Joe of Gretna, LA, Randall Wayne of Casper, WY, and John Crane of Barstow, CA; and one daughter, Linda Lee Schulz (Scott) of Casper, WY.

Porter is preceded in death by his parents, numerous siblings, and his son, James Porter and daughter, Deborah Elizabeth. He also left behind his beloved wife, Doris, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In 2005 Porter met Doris Marie Gish on-line at "Senior Friend Finder". They were soul mates. They were married in the First Southern Baptist Church in Rawlins, Wyoming. They loved to dance and would attend dances at the Eagles and Senior Center. He never gave up a chance to get up on stage and sing.

Porter loved rock hunting, making jewelry, singing and fishing. He impacted many people and at times brought others into his home. He was a kind man with a warm smile and gracious spirit. He and his stories will be greatly missed.
