Phil Brekken passed away on April 14, 2013. He was born August 12, 1937 in Riverton, Wyoming and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1955. He served in the U S Army in Europe and Africa from 1956 through1959. He returned to Wyoming and established the Texaco gas station in Powder River in 1962 and married Edith Wipper that same year. Phil and his father owned and operated the Texaco station until 1991, at which time he became an oilfield pumper for Beren Energy in the Powder River area until his retirement in 2007.
Phil enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains and was a hunting guide for over 20 years. Later in life, Phil became an avid golfer.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Milford "Sweed" and Getrude "Corky" Brekken and his daughter Polly Maloney. Survivors include his wife Edith, daughters Dana McCarrel and Erin Raabe and five grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday April 19th at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming at 10:00 a.m. Military Honors and burial will be presented by the Natrona County Veterans Council. (All arrangements are being handled by Newcomer Funeral Home in Casper.) Donations in his honor can be made to the Casper Humane Society or Central Wyoming Hospice.
