Pansy Esther Prugh died peacefully February 11, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family after her courageous 17-year battle with breast cancer. She celebrated her 76th birthday on 12.12.12. She was born on December 12, 1936, to LaFayette and Fairyl Martin in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Pansy graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1954 and from Northwest Nazarene College in 1958 with degrees in education and music. She was an educator in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Casper, Wyoming; and Melrose Park, Illinois for many years.
On August 4, 1962, Pansy married the love of her life, Dr. Marlo Gene Prugh, at the First United Methodist Church in Casper, Wyoming. This past summer they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. After the birth of their daughter, Denise, Pansy devoted herself to caring for her family and overseeing the books for her husband's dental practice.
For the past eleven years, she was lovingly referred to as "Mimi" by her grandsons, Dane and Drew. They were the "apples of her eye" and they were blessed by her involvement in their lives. For many years, children were near and dear to her heart as she accompanied the FUMC Cherub Choir. Pansy's passion for music was evident by her talent and ability to improvise, making even "Chopsticks" and "Happy Birthday" sound epic on the piano. While in college, she was a member of the Crusader Choir and the Madrigal Singers. She also appeared in annual music productions, Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Telephone" and as the soprano soloist in Handel's "Messiah." Pansy was involved in many Casper musical societies for years including: FUMC Chancel Choir, Casper Civic Chorale, Casper College Theatre Board of Directors, Casper Fine Arts Club and Community Concert Association. She was also a member of PEO, Chapter O.
Pansy enjoyed traveling with her family and friends to near and far places such as Alcova Lake, Jackson Hole, the Medicine Bow National Forest, China, Europe, the Panama Canal and Peru. She enjoyed sightseeing, boating, camping and storytelling which always included a lesson to be learned.
She is survived by her husband Gene and daughter Dr. Denise Prugh Rasmussen, husband Ted and boys, Dane and Drew, all of Casper. She is also survived by her sister Chandos Martin of Casper, and brothers Claude Martin of Casper and Grover Cleveland Martin of Rock Springs. Pansy will be deeply missed by all the hearts she touched as well as the magical sounds she created with her piano renditions.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, February 15, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Casper. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 302 E 2nd St. Casper, WY. 82601 or the Casper Rotary Foundation at P.O. Box 496 Casper, WY. 82602.
