Olie Olene Usrey, age 88, died peacefully at her home in Glenrock, WY, surrounded by her children, after a brief struggle with brain cancer. Olene was born Feb 1, 1929, in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of James Dennis and Alice Dennis.

Olene attended elementary at Melba B. Lamar School in Dallas, Texas. In her adult years she attended the National Beauty School in Dallas, Texas and numerous other colleges. She earned her teachers certification in 1961. She continued as a cosmetology instructor from 1961-1990. She received numerous awards for her accomplishments.

Olene enjoyed all forms of art. She enjoyed nature and incorporated such into her projects. She was especially proud of her Native American (Comanche) heritage. She was an excellent seamstress and was always eager to help anyone with such tasks. She was in the process of making bibs for the disabled and in the past made numerous aides to help with the disabled.

Her family and friends were her treasures. She had a heart of gold and shared her love with everyone she met. She was a mother to many, not just her biological children. Her home was a safe haven for many children needing someone to care for them. She was known as "Mama Usrey".

Olene was married to the love of her life, Edward Usrey. They were married in Oklahoma on September 11th, 1947. They resided in Texas, in the Dallas and surrounding area. They were happily married for 52-years until his death in 1999.

She is survived by her children, Leslie Allen Usrey and wife Janice of Kemp, TX; Edward Ray Usrey and wife Elaine of Glenrock, WY; Freddie Harold Usrey of Billings, MT, Junella Smith and husband Billy of Tool, TX and Donovan Ray Martin and wife Sherry of Texas City, TX, 14-grandchildren,

13-great grandchildren, 1- great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband Edward Usrey; her son, James Alex Usrey and her granddaughter, Angela Richardson preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held December 16th, at the First Baptist Church of Lively, 18075 S. FM 148, Scurry, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society in her name.
