"Stormin' Norman"
Memorial services for Norman Samuel Maerz, 79, will be celebrated at 1:00pm on September 20th, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Justin Limmer.
He passed away on September 13, 2014 at Northern Colorado Long Term Acute Hospital in Johnstown, Colorado. Born on December 25, 1934 in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. He was the son of Samuel and Helen Maerz.
On December 5, 1959 he married Marsha May Marshall in Anchorage, Alaska. Norman owned and operated Maerz Drilling Company where he made a living as a seismograph driller. He lived in several places including, Alberta, Alaska, California, North Dakota, Utah, Montana and Wyoming. He was a resident of Casper for 48 years.
Wherever he went, Norman had the gift of making friends. People throughout his life knew him as "Stormin' Norman". He had the ability to overcome severe personal injuries (UFF DA) and the tenacity to "ride out the storm," despite the circumstances. Norman had a passion for "not throwing people away." He kept in contact with all his family and friends, as they cherished their regular phone calls from Norman. He was always quick to make a joke or make a stranger smile. Norman was generous in sharing his time and talent with others. He loved singing and playing his J-50 guitar, fixing things, reminiscing, giving advice ("keeping your nose to the grindstone") and telling his stories of his adventures. Norman maintained the attitude that he was "satisfied," and would ask "Is everybody happy?"
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marsha, son, Jeffrey, and siblings Lloyd, Ada, and Adeline.
He is survived by his children Miles Maerz of Casper, Lori (Ryan) Clifford of Casper, Bradley Maerz of Casper, and Marshall (Anita) Maerz of Casper; his nine grandchildren, Nathanael, Valerie, Julie, Aaron, Derek, Breanna, Jordan, Samuel, and Levi; his sisters Martha, Eilene, and Darlene, and brothers, Gilbert and Arnold (Judy).
