Please join us at Muriel's Celebration of Life

A celebration of the life of Muriel Elaine (Fischer) Street will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October, 22, 2017 at Shekinah Glory Ministries 4720 E. Magnolia Street, Casper, Wyoming. She passed away September 10, 2017 at the age of 86. Cremation has taken place.

Muriel was born on May 9, 1931 in DeWitt, Nebraska to Fred Fischer and Ethel (Shumard) Fischer. Muriel graduated from high school second in her class and received a Regents Scholarship and Elementary Teaching certification from the University of Nebraska.

Muriel moved to Casper, Wyoming with her parents and siblings in 1948. She met her husband Roy Street when her family rented a cabin from Roy's mother at the Wa-Wa Lodge on Casper Mountain. They were married December 30, 1950. The couple spent summers on the mountain in Roy's family homestead cabin until they built their log home as full-time residents in 1956. Her husband, Roy, became the mountain's first resident deputy in 1957. At that time they were one of only five families living year-round on the mountain and one of only two families raising children there. The mountain was always very dear to Muriel. She had resided there for over 66 years at the time of her death.
Muriel worked for Shell Oil until having her first child in 1956. She was deputized by Sheriff Louie Cooper in 1959 so she could officially help her husband with his job. She was also a licensed hunting guide working with her husband in their outfitting business and operated the weather station on the mountain for the BLM. In the early 1970's Muriel owned the Hogadon Lunch Hutch. Through this business she was able to earn the money to build the couple's second home on Casper Mountain.

Muriel's husband, Roy, died in 1977. Although their two daughters were adults by then, Muriel was left with their two young sons to raise alone, which she concentrated on for the following 10 years. She taught them to shoot and took them hunting and fishing, taught them to drive and showed them how to use a chainsaw. Muriel also retuned to college at this time to pursue her life-long love of photography by studying camera and darkroom work under Marty Russell at Casper College.

In 1987, Muriel rejoined the working world. Many people will remember her from the various jobs and volunteer positions she held after her husband died and children were raised. She was an election judge and coordinator for the Casper Mountain precinct for over 40 years. She worked for Healthcare for the Homeless and for the the Natrona County Senior Center as the North Casper site manager and newspaper editor. She was the manager at Mountaineers Mercantile, worked at the Maternity Boutique and was the office manager for American Mobile Research. Her last job was at Walmart, where for over 10 years, working as a photo technician, she shared her love of photography with her customers. She retired in 2014.

Muriel was a Christian that attended Shekinah Glory Ministries. She was full of life – loving God, her family, nature, the mountain, traveling, photography and writing. One of the kindest souls to grace the earth, she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughters Laura Olson and Julie York and sons Roy Street II and Bert Street all of Casper, Wyoming, by her sister Linda Bennet and brother Robert Fischer of the Pedro Mountains and by her brother Frank of Ranchester, Wyoming. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Leif and Keith Olson, Bert Street II, Heather, Lee, Amber and Scott Street. In addition she is survived by 6 great grandchildren: Isabella, Heith, Remington, Emersyn, Barret and Asher, and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Street, her father Fred Fischer and mother Ethel Tuma, Sister Jean Carpenter and grandson Heith Olson.
