Monte Lamar Henrie, Sr.

Monte Lamar Henrie, Sr., 85, of Casper, surrounded by his family peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

He was born to the late Wayne L. and Barbara Henrie, February 14, 1939 in Jackson, Wyoming. The family moved to Casper in 1944 where he graduated from NCHS in 1957. After graduating from Casper College he attended the University of Denver and University of Wyoming graduating in 1976.

On August 27, 1961, he married Cynthia Ann Coleman in Denver, Colorado, moving back to Casper in 1963 where he established his piano and voice studio. During these years he was also employed as the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church and later at First Presbyterian for almost 25 years. He is also known for founding and directing the Casper Comic Opera Company presenting the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, The Victorian Players, a dinner theatre of Melodrama followed by Olio skits, and the Tenderfoot Traveling Troupe which was an offshoot of the Natrona County Schools Summer Drama class. After retiring from teaching studio piano and Summer Drama, he spent the next several years as a Seasonal Interpreter /Guide at The Battle of the Little Bighorn National Monument also teaching Community Education and OLLI classes at Casper College on the Indian Wars.

Monte was a man of varied interests and talents. In his youth he worked on his Grandfathers ranch, the VT, in addition to working on other ranches in Converse County. In retirement he visited many Civil War Battlefields, rode Steam trains, attended Theatre, Opera and Symphony performances and took part in several Road Scholar classes throughout the country. In addition to his wife, Cynthia, Monte is survived by three children: Monte Henrie, Jr.; Mariellen (MarKay) Elmore both of Casper; and Shawna Hibbler of Cheyenne; also four grandsons: Cole and Will Hibbler, Anthony and Michael Elmore, and favorite granddaughter, Jocelyn Weckwerth. He is also survived by two great grandsons, Paxton and Gavin Elmore, and four great granddaughters, Ellie Jean and Winnie Weckwerth; Addison and Mira Elmore. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Wayne Henrie, and his brother, Steve.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Casper Children's Theatre, 949 North Durbin, Casper, Wyoming 82601.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
