January 6, 2006 Marion Elizabeth "Mimi" DePaolo joined the choirs of angels after a long, courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Her transition occurred peacefully with her loving family at her bedside. She is now free of her earthly bonds and has joined those joyous souls who have gone before her to the Kingdom of God.
Mimi was born to George and Marion (Haggarty) Smartt on June 30, 1961 in Great Falls, Montana. Mimi was the youngest of eight children and she attended schools in Great Falls and Missoula Montana where she graduated from Loyola Sacred Heart High School. She married Patrick Joseph Whittle Sr. and they moved to Casper, Wyoming. Mimi started her family with Pat by bringing two sons, Patrick Joseph Jr. and Andrew Brian, into the world. She then graduated from Casper College with an Associate's Degree in nursing. Mimi shared her love of nursing with the patients she worked with at Wyoming Medical Center, NOWCAP Services, and Natrona County Public Heath where she started the Welcome Home Program for pregnant mothers.
Mimi later married Dr. Hugh DePaolo and settled into the beautiful Victorian home, "The Windy Rose," they built and shared. Mimi loved to entertain and share their home with family and friends. Mimi enjoyed traveling to new places and returning to her favorite ones, especially Hawaii. She loved time spent with her grandchildren and any other tiny blessing from God. She was strong in her faith and shared her life with many others. She had a calling for touching each soul put in her path as demonstrated by her love and service to Alcoholics Anonymous. Some of Mimi's favorite activities included developing her artistic talents, singing, collecting angels, shopping, decorating, spoiling her loved ones and spending time in her garden…and shopping! She cherished her family and displayed the true meaning of unconditional love.
Mimi is survived by her spouse, Dr. Hugh DePaolo, sons, Patrick Joseph Whittle Jr. (wife Jolene) and Andrew Whittle of Casper; stepchildren Gary DePaolo (wife Jennifer) of Casper, Daniel DePaolo, Camillo DePaolo and Megan DePaolo of Eugene, Oregon; father George Smartt of Arizona; siblings Scott Smartt (wife Kathy), Becky Eamon (husband Bob) of Montana, Cindy McDonald (husband Mike) of Colorado; grandchildren Alexis DePaolo, Anastasia Whittle, Bailey Whittle and Evan DePaolo. Her former husband and father of her children, Pat Whittle; in-laws Camillo & Joyce DePaolo, Ron & Joey DePaolo, Vicki Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mimi was preceded in death by mother Marion Smartt, grandparents Leonard & Alice Haggarty, and siblings Stacy, Matt, Ned and Mike Smartt.
