Mildred Katherine Rice-Marietta
Mildred "Millie" Marietta, daughter of Lucille (Schlosser) and Dot Rice, was born December 5, 1937 in Norton Kansas. She passed away February 11, 2013 at her home in Casper Wyoming at the age of 75, surrounded by her loving family after an extremely long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Millie was reared in Selden Kansas where she attended Selden High School, was the valedictorian of her class and excelled in basketball and music. After graduating she worked in the Farmers State Bank in Selden. On December 8, 1956 she married Jerry Marietta of Oberlin, Kansas in Selden and subsequently the new couple moved to Denver, Colorado. Three children would eventually be born from this union. Terri Lynn Marietta was their first child, and their only daughter. After moving to Casper, Wyoming in 1958 the couple had two more children, Mitch and Scott Marietta both raised in Casper. Millie was employed in Casper at Wyoming National Bank for 25 years before retiring in 1990.
Millie loved watching College basketball especially the NCAA tournament, with her two favorite teams being the Kansas Jayhawks and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Millie was also an avid Denver Broncos fan. Two of Millie's favorite activities were time spent outdoors camping with her family, and playing the nickel slot machines on the many family trips to Las Vegas and Deadwood. Of course the most important part of Millie's life was her loving family. She truly rejoiced in the many hours the family spent together during their many gatherings. Moreover, Millie and Jerry never missed a game when their sons competed in basketball at Kelly Walsh. They also traveled to Hutchinson, Kansas to attend the National Junior College Tournament in 1978 watching their oldest son Mitch and the Thunderbirds take 5th place.
