Mike Cardenas, 84, was born in Moses, New Mexico to Jose Mike and Ricarda Cardenas. He peacefully left this world on November 30, 2020 with his daughter and son by his side. He fought a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. We will miss him dearly, but we are thankful that he has been set free.
He married Camilla Ulibarri in 1954. And they had three children from their loving union. He married his forever love, Janette Wolfe on December 23, 1976. They loved to travel together and spend the winters in Yuma Arizona. Janette proceeded him in death in 2009. He found comfort in his fur companions, Brandi, Tuff, and Sassy in his later years.
He served in the US Army as a Helicopter mechanic during the Korean war. He was a drilling foreman for Amoco ( 1974) until his retirement. He was also a bar owner. He owned the Tumble Inn in Powder River, Wyoming, known all around for the enchiladas. He also owned The Lost Soldier Bar in Bairoil Wyo. Mike was a "jack of all trades." He was creative and could build or fix anything that you asked him to from cars to houses and everything in between. He liked to stay busy. After retirement he worked as an independent contractor building ramps and putting in grab bars and rails. He often paid for the materials out of his own pocket for people who could not afford it. He was very generous helping family and friends. He had a sarcastic sense of humor and we all remember him combing back his slick dark hair!
He is survived by his children. Timothy (Barb ) Cardenas, Michael (Jeannie) Cardenas, and Judy ( Kevin) Costalez, step children, Donna Fasula, Carroll ( Teri) Manning, and Sandra Manning, granddaughter Chasity Flores, sisters Barbara Lewis, Joann ( Tom) Cardenas, brothers, Richard ( Mary) Cardenas, Louie ( Peggy) Cardenas, and Dave ( Sandy) Cardenas, 9 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
He was greeted by his wife, parents, son, brothers, sisters, stepson, and other relatives. There will be no services at his request. The family plans to have a small graveside gathering in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, we lovingly request that you GO HOME AND HUG YOUR LOVED ONES AND TELL THEM THAT YOU LOVE THEM. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's association in his memory.
