Michael "Mike" George Trumbull was born on December 26, 1940, at St. Luke's Hospital of Duluth, MN to parents Francis and Dorthy (Spindler) Trumbull. He passed away on December 17, 2023, just shy of his 83rd birthday in Casper, WY. Being the stubborn Trumbull man he was, he gave his battle with Dementia/ Alzheimer's all he had.
He grew up wreaking havoc in his childhood neighborhood on Selby Ave. in St. Paul, MN with a group of rambunctious boys that he always fondly remembered. In his early years he attended Longfellow Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in 1959. Following high school, he moved to El Paso, continuing his education at Texas Western College.
With new job opportunities ahead, Mike found himself in Newcastle, WY, where he met his first wife, Linda Adkins, and they were married on October 5, 1963. He proudly joined the United States ARMY, enlisting in June 1966, serving as a Chaplain's Assistant and continued his service in the reserves until 1972. After moving back from Ft. Huachuca to Newcastle, WY he managed both the Dogie and drive-in movie theatres, while working for the USGS. On September 27, 1968, the pair welcomed Mike's only child, Monty.
He would later meet and marry his second wife, Marcia Kurtz. Mike met his third wife, Kathleen Lahti, and welcomed step kids Kerry (Skurski) and Paul Erik. They were married on September 21, 1986, living a life of luxury and enjoying the sights together until her passing in 2008.
An accomplished businessman in his prime, Mike owned and operated successful operations including the Chalet Apartments in Newcastle, as well as motels and hotels in Silver Bay, MN and Silver City, NM. One of his favorite endeavors was Michael's, the restaurant located at his first hotel in Silver City. He took great pride in his time in the hospitality industry. He was always eager to ensure everyone had their best stay, focusing on anything from the atmosphere to something as simple as a good cup of coffee. He continued with this passion later in life, owning and operating Northern Grounds in Ely, MN. He was an active member of the Methodist Church and attended regularly until his health failed.
A lifelong traveler, Mike saw much of the world and commuted between Minnesota and New Mexico each year. He was an avid sports fan and took joy in working at the Seattle Mariners training camp each spring. He was the kind of person that really had "been there and done that." The life of the party everywhere he went and always ready with a witty punchline, there was never a dull moment in his presence. With a quirky smile that could light up any room, Mike was a people person and was sure to make friends everywhere he went.
He is survived by his son, Monty (Shelly) Trumbull, their three children Con (Leo), Kristen, and Thayne (Jaysie). He was proceeded in death by his parents, his aunt Marie, siblings Tom and Anne, and wife Kathleen.
A service will be held at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery on Thursday December 28th, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Monty asks that memorials be made in Mike's memory to the Alzheimer's Association – WY Chapter at 2232 Dell Range Blvd. Ste. 101 Cheyenne, WY 82009.
