Michael Eugene Johnson, 67, of Douglas, Wyoming, passed away from heart disease on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming. He was born on September 6, 1956, in Douglas to Samuel L. (Bud) Johnson and Dorothy Sue (Dottie) Robbins Johnson.
Mike spent his early childhood on the ranch of his maternal grandparents, Doc and Peggy Robbins, in the Boxelder area south of Glenrock, Wyoming. He attended various schools in Boxelder, Casper, and Douglas, Wyoming, as well as in Valentine, Nebraska and Laurel, Montana. Following his school years, he worked as a ranch hand in the Douglas area and in the oilfields in Wyoming and Montana. He then started his own fencing company, On the Dot Fencing. He continued operating the business until poor health caused him to retire.
Known as Uncle Mike to his family, he had a heart as big as the mountains he loved, and was totally devoted to his family and many friends. His sense of humor was unforgettable, and he could captivate a whole room with his many stories. Mike loved hunting and fishing, playing cribbage, and was the original “cookie monster.”
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Wayne Hiser; two nephews, Clay Carlon and Shane Abbott; one niece, Skye Hiser; and cousin and close friend, Rusty Hiser.
He is survived by his five siblings: Jake (Phyllis) Johnson of Douglas; Marlene Johnson of Aurora, Colorado; Dollie (Larry) Abbott of Custer, South Dakota; Cotton (Sue) Hiser of Meeteetse, Wyoming; and Cactus Hiser of Douglas.
